Lawrence Gurganious could only watch as sudden cardiac arrest took his son to the brink of death at a high school basketball game in February.
That David Gurganious is alive today and back at El Cerrito High School for his junior year is testament to the quick action of his coach and others at the game who were trained in CPR and acted quickly after the seemingly healthy 15-year-old collapsed on the bench.
“I was given the greatest gift of all, to still have my child,” said Lawrence Gurganious, who has dedicated himself to seeing that others take advantage of advance screenings that can prevent such tragic and near-tragic situations.
