Texas Christian Swimmer Dies

Former standout Tesoro swimmer Amanda Bebout, 20, has died, school officials confirmed Tuesday night.

Bebout, a student at Texas Christian University, was found dead Monday night by her roommate at their off-campus residence, according to a news report.

Fort Worth police said Monday night that preliminary findings suggested that the case was not a criminal assault or homicide, according to the news report. The Tarrant County Medical Examiners Office has listed the cause of death as “pending lab studies.”

Bebout was a nursing major at Texas Christian, said Lisa Albert, director of communications for the university.

Bebout started at Texas Christian University in the fall of 2007, the same year she graduated from Tesoro. Albert said counseling has been available to students at the university. The university’s counseling center saw several students Tuesday, Albert said.

“Obviously, the community is saddened,” Albert said of Bebout’s death.

The former Mission Viejo resident was a CIF qualifier as a freshman, sophomore and junior for the Titans. As a sophomore, she placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke at the CIF-Southern Section Division II finals. As a freshman, she was seventh in the 100 backstroke.
