Chip Knapp had envisioned the weekend for months. Wesley College, where Knapp serves as the offensive coordinator, was playing Walsh College at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Field at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio, on Oct. 22.
For just about all of the Wesley players, it was as close to playing on a professional football field as they will come. For Knapp, the trip was also a chance to visit his hometown of Kent, Ohio, less than an hour from Canton. That’s why he brought his son, Ben, a 16-year-old junior at Dover High School. They were going to spend time with Knapp’s parents, his brother and other relatives and friends during the weekend. They were also going to tour the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “It was going to be a great weekend,” Chip Knapp said. “That was the picture I had in my head when we got off the bus at our hotel.”
