Screening Attended: Sycamore School District

Activities: Baseball, basketball and diving

Diagnosis: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)

How has life changed: Matthew underwent surgery to have an amplatzer occluder implanted. One month later, he was cleared to resume normal activity. He wears a protective shirt over his heart.

Message to Simon’s Fund: Enough words cannot express our thanks to Darren Sudman and his wife Phyllis for starting Simon’s Fund. Through the pain of their loss, they managed to save another person, again. Matthew’s heart condition would not have led to sudden cardiac death but over time it would have affected his quality of life. Now, his heart is repaired and he no longer has to worry.
