OREGON CITY, Ore. — A teacher at Oregon City High School has been credited with helping save a student who collapsed in his classroom.
Sixteen-year-old Brandon Holicky’s heart stopped while he was in his first period class last Monday. Holicky’s teacher, Brent Leong, said he knew immediately what he needed to do.
“I asked the students to move to the side and I go check on him, shake him and he’s gasping for air,” Leong said.
Campus security officer Bobby Bates also rushed to help and gave CPR to Holicky.
Because the automated external defibrillator was in the main office on the other side of the school’s campus, the AED was not used on Holicky until paramedics arrived.
