High School Band Member Collapses at Game

MARIETTA – A Pope High School band student remains hospitalized after he was air lifted during Friday night’s away football game in Dallas.

The student, who band director Gary Gribble and Cobb communications specialist Doug Goodwin declined to identify, collapsed during the Greyhounds’ game against East Paulding High School.

Gribble said in an e-mail Monday afternoon, “He has a heart condition and had been experiencing issues with rapid pulse.”

The student was air lifted from the baseball field near the stadium during the game and taken to the hospital, Goodwin said, adding that the game resumed after the medical emergency.

Gribble said the student is currently undergoing treatment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
