Andy Murray Demands Heart Screening in Tennis

We don’t typically see much discussion about sudden cardiac arrest in tennis.  We’re glad that Andy Murray is taking is stand.

Andy Murray has demanded that regular heart screenings be made compulsory in tennis following the cardiac arrest suffered by Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Muamba’s heart had stopped for 78 minutes before he was able to be resuscitated. The 23-year-old had a comfortable night in intensive care last night although he remains in a critical condition.

Murray, who has his heart checked independently on a regular basis, told MSN Sport: “With all the pressure and stress of modern sport you have no idea how much you are pushing yourself on the pitch or court, I think it’s something that’s just got to be done.
