The Christian County Coroner’s Office announced Thursday afternoon that a Spokane High School student and basketball player who collapsed and died Wednesday had a pre-existing heart condition.
Forrest R. Varney, 17, died at a Springfield hospital after collapsing during basketball practice at Spokane High School Wednesday morning. He collapsed to the gym floor and those present attempted CPR and dialed 911, but Varney was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
